Matt Jones Authentic Jersey re-signed by Colts, added to practice squad

Rick Barry Youth Jersey The Colts, who previously released Matt Jones, announced his re-signing to their practice squad Tuesday after the team suffered an abysmal rushing performance Week 1 against the Rams.

Jones, who enjoyed a spell as the Redskins’ starting running back last season, had been released in Washington, too, so his position in the NFL is tenuous at best.

Jones had 99 carries for 460 yards (4.6 average) last season with three touchdowns. A bruising runner, he could still earn a look with the Colts, or a team could claim him off the practice squad.

Yordano Ventura Youth Jersey But the NFL roster cut rule change also created what waa a chaotic 鈥?and in many cases, devastating 鈥?two-day stretch from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon.

NFL teams had until 4 p.m. ET Saturday to trim their 90-man rosters down to 53 players. Each team released up to 37 players, meaning more than 1,100 players around the NFL lost their jobs. While 320 of those players will be signed to practice squads (10 practice squad players per team), about 800 will not.

NFL teams before this year’s rule change cut players before and after their fourth and final preseason games. Now there’s only one cut-down period 鈥?after Week 4 preseason games, all of which were scheduled for Thursday night 鈥?but teams were able to cut players at will before Thursday.

Some rookies are brought along slowly, while others are thrown right into the fire. Second-round tailback Dalvin Cook belongs in the latter category. Cook was on the field for 51 of Minnesota’s offensive snaps (78 percent) during his NFL debut in Week 1.
